History of the Auditors of the Court of Session
This office was established by Act of Sederunt, in February 1806. The Auditor was made a permanent official and a Member of the College of Justice in 1821. The Auditor is now appointed under Section 25 of the Administration of Justice (Scotland) Act 1933. The Auditor’s independence is guaranteed by virtue of his appointment by Scottish Ministers.
